The Technical Commission have examined the different possibilities of delivering EAR.
The conclusion is as follows:
The rescuer should remove the casualty's mask.
The rescuer should deliver EAR every five seconds by
(a) sealing the casualty's mouth and ventilating via the nose
OR
(b) sealing the casualty's nose and ventilating via the mouth.
These are the only methods which are to be taught or examined as of March 1st, 2010.
The emphasis, however, is on supporting the casualty on the surface and getting them either into the boat or to shore as soon as possible.
