AIMS

To receive and securely store all documents, photographs, etc, relevant to the development of leisure diving in Ireland.

To provide to the officers of CFT historical information on diving matters and to assist them in making fully informed decisions.

To provide a central facility for researchers and historians who may wish to study any aspects of leisure diving in Ireland.

THE SERVICE

CFT Archives exists to provide a service to all who wish to know more about the development of their clubs and their chosen sport. Over the years, information has been supplied on request to many member clubs who were preparing to celebrate anniversaries, or who have planned to make special presentations.

To carry out research or simply to visit the Archives, it is necessary to make an appointment. Such visits must be made during office hours only, Monday to Friday by prior arrangement with the Hon Archivist. Documents may be copied but cannot be taken away. Only photographs with such essentials as ‘who, what, where and when’ can be considered as being of archival value.

THE MATERIAL

Archives are records with a special significance, deemed to be of enduring value. The term ‘record’ includes paper documents such as letters and memoranda as well as pictorial records photographs and films.

CFT Archives contain, unlike a typical public library, unique and irreplaceable records.  IncreasinglyCFT archives are also stored in electronic format, be it sound, image or text digital files.
